Early Years Funding

EARLY YEARS FUNDING (Free Early Education for Three & Four Year Olds)

Early Years Funding is available for a child aged 3 & 4 years. It comes into effect on the first school term AFTER the child’s third birthday. It provides up to 15 hours per week of free funded hours, for a maximum of 38 weeks during the year. We take this funding and apply it over the 51 chargeable weeks of the nursery year.
We work to the Code of Practice which accompanies the Early Years Funding and we make additional charges as the Code of Practice allows for meals and snacks, organic milk, as well as our Montessori activities and resources. These are extra to the requirements of the Early Years Funding entitlement, but are essential to the ethos of our nursery.

Please contact City of York Council for more details by telephone: 01904 554444 or by email: [email protected]
If our nursery occupancies can accommodate your requirements, the early years funding can be taken flexibly within the following limits:
· The full 15 hours have to be taken over at least two days per week and a maximum of five days per week
· A minimum of 2.5 hours can be taken in one day
· A maximum of 10 hours can be taken in one day, but no more than 15 hours over two days.

Parents can take the funding at up to two providers. The basic offer is three hours over five days a week, or five hours over three days a week, but many providers allow for the provision flexibly.
For example, a child could have nine hours at a nursery or reception class and six hours with a playgroup, day nursery, childminder or independent school.
Please note that if a child attends a part-time place in a school nursery, reception class or nursery class, then the hours attended will be counted as part of that child’s Free EY Entitlement. If they attend for 3 or more weekday mornings, all of their 15 hours will be used by the school.
